The Best Ever Tulip Year

Bulb: potential flower buried in Autumn, never to be seen again.

I’ve never had any trouble growing Tulips. I normally buy about six bulbs of any one color, and within a few years I divide them and there will be about 60 of them!

I appreciate the misunderstanding I have had with Nature over my perennial  border. I think it is a flower garden; she thinks it is a meadow lacking grass, and tries to correct the error.

I suppose that for most people one of the darker joys of gardening
is that once you’ve got started it’s not at all hard to find someone who knows
a little bit less than you.

Most people don’t see the sun, soil, bugs, seeds, plants, moon, water, clouds, and wind the way gardeners do.

I should like to enjoy this summer flower by flower,
as if it were to be the last one for me.

    • Hi Rumbley – These tulip pictures were from one month ago, though the last tulip dropped its petals just a couple of weeks ago. We had a very late spring here!

  1. Gorgeous! What camera do you use? I’m hoping to someday buy something other than my current little Canon xSi rebel. I did purchase a sweet “nifty fifty” lens that creates great bokeh (love that word) but could never capture such close up shots.

    • Hi Maineiac – I’ve been using my husband’s Canon EOS 20D for most of the close-ups. It has an 18-55 mm lens.
I have a little Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 that I use for most of the rest of my photos.

  2. You are an amazing photographer, regardless of your subject; although your subject in this case was equally amazing. You caption the photos with just the right essense, too. This post was, like so many others of yours, magical and a delight for the soul.

  3. Gorgeous photos! I’ve never grown anything that multiplied before until my brother gave me some iris corms a couple of years ago. And last summer we planted four Asian lilies we bought on end-of-the-summer clearance at the hardware store. We know nothing of flowers, but they looked pretty. Lo and behold, those four lilies became fourteen this spring, much to our amazement!

  4. Superb photography, and I loved the gardener quotes. The pictures made me feel blessed, and the quotes made me laugh.

And I’ve been absent too long, and must tell you your revamped site design looks wonderful!

Also, loved the Canada Day post, tho this is the wrong place to say so. That golf cart photo was a killer!! I wish I’d been there!

Your blog does me good, Margie– many thanks! : )

P.S. Almost forgot: excellent Photoshoppin’ in your previous post– nicely done!
